Peace Cranes
Dear Parents and Carers,
"I will write peace on your wings and you will fly all over the world."
Our 1000 Peace Cranes have finally arrived in Hiroshima, Japan and are on display in Peace Park.
The cranes were made as part of our Catholic Social Teaching theme of peace. The children shared the story of Sadako, a Japanese girl who was a victim of the aftermath of the Hiroshima bombing. When she was in hospital, children were encouraged to take their medicine by using the medicine wrappers to make origami shapes. Sadoka's favourite figure was a crane, a symbol of hope and peace. It was in that spirit of peace that our cranes were made and have journeyed across the world to Japan.
A big thank to Mrs Sciangula, one of our parents, who ensured the cranes arrived safely in Japan.
